RED YOUNG & FRIENDS
The hardest-driving, genuine Hammond B3 organ based group helmed by Red
Young. Transporting voluptuous Soul, Jazz, Funk and Rhythm & Blues
sounds from time past into new music in our modern day lifestyle.
The well-respected talents of popular former Los Angeles and current Austin
resident Red Young on the organ, bass (played the same time on the
B3) and vocals, Ephraim Owens on trumpet, Paul White , Alex Coke
or Sam Lippman on saxophone and Brannen Temple on drums
are all centered around a wailing vintage, 350-pound, Hammond B3
organ.
The tunes stroll back to the time of early Hammond masters Jimmy Smith,
Richard "Groove" Holmes, Charles Earland, Jack McDuff, Jimmy McGriff
and Larry Young and continue on to Barry White, Isaac Hayes, Bill
Withers, Crusaders, Maceo Parker and War and include some of Red's original
compositions, grooves and improvisations that are guaranteed to get any
room moving.
In the early 1970's when Red Young lived and played the organ music he loved
in New England and New York he was often the only white musician in the
bunch. With a mane of red hair and a lot of soul, he naturally acquired
the nickname BROTHER RED.
THE QUARTET is much different than Young's arranged-precise machine
Red and the Red Hots structure they are known for.
RED played around the Southern California music circuit for over
a few years and had a lot of great shows under his belt already from nightclubs,
dances to New Year's Eve at Disneyland sidelining with his Red And The
Red Hots. His BROTHER RED CD is available on he web site or through
CD BABY. His second
album "The Organizer" is available at stores everywhere
or through BLUES LEAF RECORDS.
Red is working on a new album with his current Austin lineup. For two years
2003-2005 Red was involved in and performed every Wednesday night at DJANGO
ON THE PARKWAY in Dallas. From 2006 Red has been touring world wide
with former musical colleage ERIC
BURDON and the ANIMALS.
Regular engagements are at THE
ELEPHANT ROOM in Austin, BROOKLYN
JAZZ CAFE in Dallas, and SCAT
JAZZ LOUNGE in Ft Worth.
